Apayao pride graduates from UP with flying colors

Apayao, Philippines - An Apayao pride shared the spotlight with 558 others who graduated cum laude in August from University of the Philippines - Los Baños (UPLB).

Karl Marx Dumayas from Luna, Apayao finished his civil engineering degree with weighted average grade of 1.75 or higher to make it to the list.

Other than the 559 cum laude, 323 completed their degrees as magna cum laude, while 23 were summa cum laude graduates.

Dumayas, who is part of the Batch Kepler Adelfa 2015-2016 of Apayao Science High School, is likewise a recipient of UP President's Medal for Academic Excellence, College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology (CEAT) Alumni Association Medal for Academic Excellence, and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Award for Academic Excellence in Science.

The DOST Merit Scholar served as Executive Secretary and Records and Publicity Committee Head of Society of Math Majors – UPLB from 2019-2020. He was also a Juror in 2020-2021 and in 2022-2023.

Further, he was the Educational Affairs Committee Head of Civil engineering Executive Organization in 2021-2022; Engineering Congress 2021, Programme Committee Head; User Interface Philippines 2022, Programme Committee Head; a UP Euyeomuyeo; and a Nominee of The International Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

The cum laude took to social media to express gratitude to his family members, relatives and friends who supported him in his journey. He especially cited the organizations and his professors who molded him.

“Ang tagumpay na ito ay inaalay ko sa aking mga magulang, mga kapatid, kay inang, mga kamag-anak na tumulong, mga tunay kong kaibigan, at higit sa lahat, para sa inang bayan,” Dumayas stated.

“Lagi't lagi, para sa bayan!” he concluded.
