Apayao records 2 COVID-19 P3 variant

Apayao, Philippines – The Provincial Government of Apayao reported on Tuesday, April 12, 2021, the detection of two Covid-19 Philippine variant particularly in the municipality of Conner.

The cases include a 21-year-old female from Barangay Calafug, and a 26-year-old male from Barangay Malama, who is a municipal government worker.

The patients, the PLGU reports, had been tested positive of the virus on March and have already recovered as of this writing.

With said cases, the Provincial Health Office of Apayao together with the Rural Health Unit of Conner is now conducting re-testing of close contacts to determine if there is already transmission of the variant in Conner.

The Provincial Local Government Unit of Apayao also reports that members of the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force will conduct a field monitoring within the week and an intensified expanded testing in the next two weeks.

Governor Eleanor Bulut-Begtang then encouraged her constituents to remain calm and continue to observe the minimum health protocols, especially now that the Philippine variant is now in the province.

“While the P3 variant has some of the characteristics of the more transmissible UK, African and Brazil variants, the Department of Health said that it is not yet considered as a variant of concern, as current data available are insufficient to conclude that it will have significant implications to public health, something that the DOH and the World Health Organization are trying to ascertain,” the Department of Health-Cordillera meanwhile clarified.

As of this writing, the province has a record of 742 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 49 active cases and six COVID-19 related deaths.
