Luna, Apayao - Apayao Lone District representative, Eleonor Bulut-Begtang called for cacao farmers in the province to keep increasing their production, stating it is time for Apayao to present one of its main products to the market.

The solon noted the province’s land areas similarities to Davao, the country's leading Cacao producer, during the grand kick-off of this year’s Say-m Festival Agri-Industrial and Tourism Fair last week.

“Idi last year idiay Davao, apan ko pinasyar ta adda ti maysa acivity nga inantendarak. Adda gayam iti forum iti Cacao. Ammo yu, makapaapal ta rinugyan tayun iti Cacao project, ken programa iti agrikultura iti Apayao. Ngem kitkitan tayo ket parehas lang iti kaado ti daga tayu ditoy ken ti daga diay Mindanao. Nu Kaya da, kaya tayu met nga aramiden,” she related.

She then urged the farmers to compete with other producers by increasing the volume of their products.

“Agaramid dan iti tsokolate idiay, agaramid tayo metten iti tsokolate ditoy. Kaya tayon nga maki-kompitensiya iti daduma pay nga producers. Isu laeng nu kasanu tayo mapaado ti volume” she conveyed.

As support in the boosting and promotion of cacao in the area, the Department of Agriculture - Cordillera launched in 2013 the Cacao Production Program in Apayao.

Said program initially provided training and distribution of agricultural resources, nurseries that produce high-quality planting materials, and bud wood garden, a plantation which serves as a source of a certified mother plant.

Meantime, Mr. Rolando Renegado, Regional Focal Person for Cacao production said that Cacao is a promising growing crop in the Cordillera.

“The cacao industry in the Cordillera is a promising emerging crop which is why we want to inform the public that there is cacao in our region. In fact during the 2018 Cacao Summit Meeting, the Cordillera region was ranked number 1 among other entries nationwide in the chocolate making competition,” he stated.
