Aparri fire destroys classrooms, library of grade school

Cagayan, Philippines – A fire broke out at a grade school in Aparri, Cagayan, engulfing two classrooms and a library early morning on June 7, 2022.

According to the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, the fire incident at the Aparri East Elementary School in Barangay Maura started around 4:00 in the morning from one classroom before spreading to another room and the library.

The fire was put under control before reaching other classrooms and the school clinic. The BFP said it took their personnel an hour before they put out the fire.

Based on the initial investigation of the BFP Aparri, the fire was possibly caused by an electric fan described as having been directly connected to a wire instead of the outlet.

The last ones who used the electric fan allegedly forgot to turn it off, causing an overheated fan motor which started the fire.

The school principal disclosed that they previously noticed the electrical wiring where the fire allegedly started producing sparks.

The school head said they planned to fix the classroom and the wiring, but the fire incident happened.

No one was reported hurt during the incident.
