Appas BLGU, Tabuk City assesses agricultural losses following devastation left by 3 typhoons

Tabuk City, Kalinga - The three consecutive typhoons that passed through Kalinga in the past weeks - Nika, Ofel, and Pepito - left a huge disruption to the agricultural sector of Barangay Appas in Tabuk City, affecting many farms.

Although the cost of the damage and the number of hectares of farmlands affected are still being assessed by the barangay officials, the farmers mentioned that most of their crops, mostly rice, were levelled by the strong winds brought by the typhoons.

This is a huge loss for the farmers in said barangay since they depend on their crops to sustain their livelihoods.

In response to this, the barangay officials, headed by Captain Bernard Glenn Dao-as, are now closely working with the Department of Agriculture as well as other concerned agencies in facilitating an extensive and thorough damage assessment for provision of assistance to its affected farmers.

A comprehensive report about the cost of damage to agriculture, not just in the barangay but all areas in Tabuk City and the municipalities in Kalinga, shall be released by the concerned agencies after the assessment is completed.

The report shall be the basis for relief funds and other aid mechanisms that shall be necessitated for the affected farmers.

The affected farmers in barangay Appas are being encouraged by the BLGU to proceed to their barangay hall and report their situation for faster forwarding of information to the relevant agencies.

The BLGU shall also be contacted through CP# 09- 568- 159- 575 in case of any other concerns.

"Apan da agreport ditoy barangay hall so we can forward the information as soon as possible to the concerned agencies for the provision of assistance." said the BLGU through its Secretary Brenda Depalog, in an interview with Guru Press Cordillera.
