Arabica coffee from Mt. Province auctioned at $20.50 a kilo

Sagada, Mt. Province – Some might think that coffee is simply just the coffee that people drink, but coffee beans could actually mean hundreds of thousands if they are produced and processed with quality.

 

Take this journey of Domingo Lawagey, a coffee farmer from Sagada, Mountain Province as an example.

 

Lawagey’s Arabica was named top 2 in the 2024 Philippine Coffee Quality Competition(PCQC), an annual event that identifies the best quality coffees in the country and provides a platform for them to bring their product to the domestic and international markets.

 

After said competition, the winning coffee products – both in the Arabica and Robusta categories – were set for bidding.

 

Based on the results released by the Philippine Coffee Guild on August 04, the iSagada’s coffee which was graded 84.8 in the PCQC 2024 was auctioned at 20.50 dollars per kilogram to The Library Café by Coop Cups. The product which has a lot size of 113 kg has a total value of $2,316.50 which is P134,155.

 

The Davao del Sur Arabica coffee which was hailed the top 1 in the PCQC 2024 was bid at $25.68 per kilogram and was sold at $4,442.64 while the top 1 Robusta from Sultan Kudarat was auctioned at 66 dollars per kilogram and was sold at $7,458.
