Ifugao, Philippines – Just a day after the 20-minute encounter between the army and rebels in Asipulo, Ifugao, another gunfight ensued between the groups on May 24, 2022 in the same barangay.

The 5th Infantry Division reported that the first armed encounter between the troops and members of the Guerilla Front (WGF)-AMPIS transpired in Sitio Likew, Namal, Asipulo on May 23 while the army was conducting a focused military operation.

The exchange of fire between the two lasted for 20 minutes and later resulted in the recovery of 4 anti-personnel mines, a 40- meter wire, 20 blasting caps, a medical kit, a jungle pack, a cellphone, and documents that are believed to be owned by the rebels who withdrew from the fight.

A hot pursuit operation against the communist terrorist group was immediately conducted with the troops blocking the possible escape route of the rebels.

A day after the first gunfight, the troops and the same group faced each other again, but this time in Sitio Timmayapa in Barangay Namal.

The uniformed personnel recovered two pieces of 5.56 mm rifles, another anti-personnel mine, commercial, and backpacks after the second firefight.
