Army reported no injuries during clash with NPA in Tinglayan, Kalinga

Updated: Jan 12, 2023

Tinglayan, Kalinga – No one was injured from the government troops after an armed encounter with members of the communist terrorist group on the afternoon of December 8 at Sitio Balay in Barangay Tulgao West, Tinglayan.

The gunfight ensued when members of the 54th Infantry Battalion who were conducting security operations encountered the members of the Weakened Kilusang Larangang Guerilya - Abra Mountain Province Ilocos Sur (WKLG-AMPIS) at Sitio Balay, the 5th Infantry Division stated.

The firefight between the two groups lasted for 15 minutes before the rebels backed off and ran away from the encounter site.

No one was harmed among the soldiers. However, it is believed that some of the rebels incurred injuries due to blood stains found in the area.

The 54th Infantry Battalion already coordinated with the Kalinga Police Provincial Office for a pursuit operation and for the conduct of checkpoints at possible exit areas of the rebels.

Captain Rigor Pamittan, Spokesperson of 5th ID told Guru Press Cordillera that the WKLG-AMPIS only moves and operates in Mountain Province and in Ifugao. For this reason, they believe that the ones encountered by the soldiers in Tulgao West only went to the area to hide from the authorities.

Nevertheless, the military asks the communities to continuously report to the authorities if there is presence of armed men in their area.
