Tabuk City, Kalinga – In time with the celebration of World Tourism Day, the Art in the Park in Kalinga will once again take place in the province end of September this year, according to the Provincial Tourism Office.

More than 40 artists are expected to demonstrate their artistry not just in canvas painting but also in tote bag painting, with the event slated for Friday, Sept. 29 at the Capitol Park, Bulanao, Tabuk City.

Now in its second year, the event will not only showcase the talents of local artists in the province but also highlight the unique Kalinga culture and identity, with the goal of strengthening the Filipino brand.

Just like the first Art in the Park in the province last year, 20 local artists will be selected to exhibit their craft on canvas painting, while in tote bag painting, interested individuals are encouraged to join.

Painting materials, meals, snacks, and certificates shall likewise be provided to participants.

Provincial Tourism Officer Lorraine Ngao-i relayed in a meeting held Friday, Sept. 22, that the top 5 artworks in canvas painting will receive P2,500 each in cash prizes. Their artworks, meantime, will be forwarded to the Department of Tourism-Cordillera.

As for the 15 others, they will be receiving P500 each. Ngao-i clarified that no incentives will be given to those who will be participating in the tote bag painting.

However, their crafts, along with the works of the canvas painters, will be turned over to the Provincial Tourism Office for sale, and proceeds will be given to their respective artists.

For other provinces in the region, Apayao will have its schedule for the same event from September 25–26, Benguet–Sept. 27, Mt. Province, and Ifugao–September 28, while Abra’s Art in the Park is also slated for September 29.
