Frustrated murder suspect captured after 16 years in hiding

Rizal, Kalinga – A 40-year-old man who allegedly shot a resident in Barangay Calaocan and had been hiding from the authorities for almost 16 years was arrested on July 20 in Purok 1 Barangay Palale, General Tinio, Nueva Ecija.


Rizal, Kalinga Chief of Police, Police Captain George Acob, identified the suspect as Joey Palaleo Dao-as, 40, resident of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija, and listed as the number 2 Top Ten Most Wanted Person in Rizal for the 3rd quarter.


He said that the accused is the primary suspect in shooting a man on the evening of September 23, 2005, in Barangay Calaocan, Rizal. The suspect was said to have shot the victim for no apparent reason using his homemade gauge 12 shotgun.


After the incident, he immediately escaped and hid in different places outside the Cordillera region to avoid authorities.


However, he wasn’t able to escape arrest when the Rizal Municipal Police Station trackers team and the 1st Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Company proceeded to Gen. Tinio MPS and conducted inter-unit coordination to serve the warrant of arrest against him.

At around 3:00 PM on July 20, the suspect through arrest warrant for Frustrated Murder issued by Hon. Marcelino Wacas, Presiding Judge, RTC, Branch 25, Tabuk City, Kalinga was captured. His bail was fixed at P200,000.


He was brought to the Rizal MPS for documentation before his turn over to the court.
