Tabuk City, Kalinga – Tumadek Cultural Group, a group of young people that represented Kalinga during the Panagbenga Grand Street Dance Parade - Cultural Dance Competition in 2023 is this year’s winner for the cultural competition of Tabuk City’s Linggo ng Kabataan celebration, marking their second consecutive win.

The group, formed in 2021, demonstrated Kalinga’s rich history through their intricate dance choreographies in the competition held on August 11, in front of the Tabuk City Hall, allowing them to clinch the top spot. In an interview, one of the group’s leaders said they decided to join said competition this year as they aspire to participate in the renowned Panagbenga Festival again if given the chance and if funds are available.

Joining said contest, according to the leader, is aligned with the purpose of why the Tumadek group was formed which is to encourage Bago youth to be more aware of their culture and traditions, paving the way for its preservation.

With this objective, the group has always been active in joining cultural competitions, even performing cultural dances during programs and occasions, which may have helped them to perform better than other competitors in said competition.

Meantime, taking the second spot in the recently-concluded contest is Barangay Dupag while Barangay Dilag landed in third place.

The competition, participated in by 7 out of the 42 barangays of Tabuk City is part of the annual celebration of the Linggo ng Kabataan which features other events such as sports activities.
