‘Bagoyan Rising’: Kalinga textiles hit 2025 New York Fashion Week

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Kalinga heritage was brought to the international runway in the February 2025 New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in Manhattan, New York and was shown to the world of fashion lovers.

 

The New York Fashion Week is a platform for designers to show their array of fashion collections to buyers, the press, and the public. The said momentous event for fashion enthusiasts is held every February and September of every year.

 

For the Fall/Winter 2025 edition, the FILIPINXT took center stage and featured six Filipino designers, marking a milestone as it became the first all-Filipino fashion show to be included in the NYFW calendar, the Philippine Consulate General in New York said.

 

Among these Filipino designers is an iKalinga, Jasmine Baac, who took her heritage back home in her ‘Bagoyan’ collection, showing the vibrant traditional weaving pattern of Kalinga in the prestigious catwalk. ‘Bagoyan’ means a woman of beauty and power.

 

As explained by Baac, in her Facebook post, Bagoyan which rooted in the artistry of Kalinga weaves is a ‘celebration of resilience, heritage, and evolution’ as it tells the story of how cultural tradition in Kalinga ascended to the global catwalk.

 

“Each piece is a tribute to the resilience and strength of the indigenous peoples of Kalinga, honoring our traditions while embracing innovation. I am grateful for this great opportunity and It is my pride and joy to represent Tabuk, Kalinga, and the Philippines in NYFW,” she wrote.

 

With her collection hitting the global runway, Baac is said to be the first iKalinga designer to be featured in the renowned New York Fashion Week.
