Baguio 911 prank calls declined in the past 8 months

Baguio City, Philippines - A 72.72% decline in prank calls to Baguio City’s 911 emergency hotline was observed in the first 8 months of 2023.

Based on the data from the Baguio Smart City Command Center, a total of 2,670 prank calls were made in the city from January 1 to August 31 this year.

It is lower compared to the 9,788 cases of the same period in 2022, Management Information Technology Division Information Systems Analyst II Adam Bert Lacay disclosed during the regular management committee meeting on Sept. 12.

As recalled, 2 persons were charged before the City Prosecutor’s Office last year for allegedly making such unimportant calls on the line intended only for emergencies and contingencies.

They faced charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1727, otherwise known as Declaring as Unlawful the Malicious Dissemination of False Information, and unjust vexation cases.

Meanwhile, Mayor Benjamin Magalong warned the public that calls made through Baguio 911 will now be traced and tagged, and that perpetrators will be held accountable if their actions are not in compliance with the law.
