Baguio author among outstanding young men in PH

Baguio City, Philippines - With his invaluable contribution to the culture and arts, not only in his community but also to the whole country, an author in Baguio City was recognized as one of the outstanding young men in the Philippines in 2023.

Tor Sagud, of Kankana-ey and Ibaloy descent, was honored for his popular book series “Igorotak” which was published in 2019.

The book is an illustrated guide that shows general information about Igorot culture, the people, cultural attire, local flora and fauna, among others in colorful illustrations.

It then became a hit in Cordillera, leading him to be invited to schools and institutions to present his copies and even allowing him to create a mural from his book illustrations for a local mall in Baguio.

Following the success of his first edition, Sagud updated the book in 2020 with more improved and well-researched information with the help of some educators and cultural experts.

The establishment of a studio, which he owns, led to his providing help to youth who are pursuing careers in the field of animation.

With his works, Sagud was awarded with the Outstanding Young Men Awards (TOYM) 2023 this year.

He received the award from the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Philippines.

Formerly known as the Outstanding Young Filipinos from 1996 - 1999, TOYM is an annual national recognition awarded to Filipinos between 18 to 40 years of age who have made significant contributions to their field or community.
