Baguio City athlete delivers gold for PH in 2024 HK Open Athletics Championship

Baguio City, Philippines – A 19-year-old sprinter in Baguio City continues to shine in the athletics world after clinching a gold medal in the 2024 Hong Kong Open Athletics Championship on May 4.

Philippine national athletics team, who joined said tournament offering Paris Olympic qualifying points delivered five medals to the country, of which three were gold.

Contributing to the three gold medals was Hussein Perez Loraña, who ruled the 800m event after submitting a time of 1:52.12, besting 16 other participants from different countries despite the inclement weather.

“Despite having a bad weather condition, still managed to make it on top,” the athlete wrote in a Facebook post.

It could be recalled that Loraña holds the Philippine Junior record for 400-meter dash after finishing a race in 48.70 seconds last year. His time beat the 48.75-second record of Alhryan Labita in 2019.
