Baguio City, Philippines – The Baguio City police recently apprehended four young individuals, two of them students, for carrying an unlicensed gun and suspected illegal drugs on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

Prior to the arrest of the suspects, police operatives in Baguio City launched a city-wide checkpoint operation after receiving alarms from headquarters that a car tagged in a murder case was spotted in the city on January 27, the Police Regional Office CAR reported.

As police officers were manning one of the checkpoints placed along the Marcos Highway on Tuesday, they had to hold a vehicle after seeing a firearm described to be visibly protruding from a pouch at the center seat during the plain-view inspection.

The four occupants – a 22-year-old female student, a 24-year-old male student, and two male online sellers ages 27 and 29 –  of the said car were arrested after they failed to present a Permit to Carry a Firearm Outside of Residence (PTCFOR). The gun was a Cal.45 with magazines and live ammunition.

Another offense was noted by the police after they discovered three sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated worth of P36,720 and a sachet of dried marijuana leaves and seeds worth P414.00.

Police said that the four will be answering charges of violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to the Omnibus Election Code and RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The suspects after an onsite inventory of confiscated items were brought to the PS10 of Baguio City Police Office for proper documentation.
