Baguio City, Philippines - Police Staff Sergeant Miguel Carranza of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Cordillera (CIDG-CAR) has won gold and silver medals in the World Police and Fire Games held in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The said event was launched in 1985 to bridge gaps and promote camaraderie outside the context of day-to-day work through sports and cultural exchange among emergency responders.

It conducts the largest mixed-sport event in the world.

In the WPFG 2022 homepage, it said “almost 10,000 people who work in police, fire, customs and corrections departments from all over the world have competed in more than 60 sports.”

The said Olympic-style competition started on July 22 and is set to culminate tomorrow, July 31.

Carranza teamed up with two Poland police officers for the team category of the 10-kilometer cross country.

The trio succeeded in their campaign, thus clinching the gold in said category. For the individual event of the half marathon competition, the Cordilleran cop finished as a silver medalist.

Carranza is among the 200-man team of the Philippine National Police who were sent to compete against the top athletes of the police and fire department from more than 70 countries.

To recall, Carranza was the first Filipino police to qualify in the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) in 2017. He completed the 166-kilometer UTMB race from France crossing Italy and Switzerland.
