Baguio City pushes for designation of arts and creativity space in business establishments

Baguio City, Philippine – Commercial establishments in Baguio City are now being encouraged to designate arts and creativity space within their commercial centers to help highlight the city’s artistic culture.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Baguio said the author of the resolution, councilor Vladimir Cayabas, asserted the need for cohesive and collaborative efforts between the city government of Baguio and the business sector for the enhancement and sustainability of Baguio’s creative spirit.

According to the councilor, Baguio, being a highly urbanized city, has a lot of business establishments frequently visited by people apart from parks.

He added that through designating arts and creativity space in every commercial establishment, the level of awareness and appreciation of the people about the artistic culture of Baguio will be boosted.

While providing a place to relax and reflect, a business sector is expected to implement creative ways to further elevate people’s appreciation of arts. additionally, Cayabas said showcasing these creative works can lead to sustainable economic gain for both the business sector and local artists.

The councilor believes that art is a fitting tool for expressing innate values, culture, and tradition, as well as in promoting tourism.

As recalled, Baguio City was designated as a Creative City for Crafts and Folk Arts by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on October 31, 2017.
