Baguio City, Philippines – The City of Baguio wins the third spot in the Best in Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Response Award during the 2020 Digital Governance Awards on Friday, December 11, according to the report of PIO Baguio.
Baguio City is one among 56 LGUs who were given an award for the five categories of the DGA.Valenzuela City was hailed as the first place for this category while Parañaque City won the second place.
Said category recognizes LGUs which are adaptable to unusual circumstances presented by the Covid-19 pandemic in the timely delivery of their services with the use of Information and Communications Technology solutions. It also rewards quick-thinking, innovation, and resourcefulness.
According to City Planning and Development Officer Arch. Donna Tabangin via PIO Baguio, she said the city was recognized for its COVID tracing system which comprises of an aggregate surveillance tracker, support package as well as an automated analytics device.
Tabangin was quoted saying, "The case-base surveillance tracker captures symptoms, demographics, risk factors and exposures, records of laboratory results and links to confirmed cases, treatment and response, and monitoring through contact tracing follow up program.”
She further told that travelers who have visited high risk locations and would like to travel in and out of the city could also access and online declaration system integrated into the COVID E-System tracker.
Baguio City finalist in 3 e-GOV categories
Baguio City was also a finalist in three e-GOV categories. These includes the Baguio Visitor Information and Travel Assistance (V.I.S.I.T.A) for the Best in Customer Empowerment (G2C) Award, the City’s Cashless Payment Solutions for the Best in Business Empowerment (G2B) Award and the Contact Tracing E-Systems of the City for the Best in COVID-19 Response category.
Tabangin told the city will continue to utilize ICT in the delivery of services, document best practices to serve as an example and benchmark to other LGUs, improve the business ecosystem of the City, promote transparency and accountability in local governance, and contribute to the digital transformation of the country.
The 2020 Digital Governance Awards is an annual search for best practices in local government units in utilizing ICT to effectively and efficiently deliver its public services directly to its constituents and to its business stakeholders.
108 local government-led programs were among the entries for this year’s Digital Governance Awards 2020.
