Baguio City’s Botanical Christmas Garden opens this November

Baguio City, Philippines – Baguio City’s Botanical Christmas Garden will be open to the public this month of November to entertain both locals and tourists this Christmas season.

Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Baguio reported that the garden will open either by the third or fourth week of this month, with the theme, ‘Christmas around the World.’

The garden is said to portray both local Christmas traditions and some foreign Christmas celebrations with a Yuletide-themed backdrop.

The Botanical Garden will highlight Baguio City's sister cities that are featured in various areas in the garden, such as Hangzhou, China; Taebaek, South Korea; Vaughan and Ontario, Canada; and Karuizawa and Wakkanai, Japan. The Thailand Friendship Park and the Cordillera Village will also be included in the Christmas decorations.

City Environment and Parks Management Officer, Atty. Rhenan Diwas conveyed they will also include the portrayal of the Nativity of Jesus Christ and other performances such as busking and Christmas carols in the said garden to emphasize the essence of Christmas.

Diwas added that the garden will be open from 6:00 p.m. until midnight for tourists and locals to enjoy the Christmas view.

Christmas Garden proposal

Diwas explained that the Christmas-themed scenery is a project proposal that aims to lessen the overcrowding and heavy traffic in the city, especially during the holiday season, by diverting tourists from one particular tourist site.

In the proposal, P997,981 was allocated to be utilized for the materials needed in the said project.

Meantime, to achieve the desired outcome of the project, Christmas lights and decorations, and existing materials owned by the City LGU will be maximized.
