Baguio City, Philippines – Elementary and high school athletes in the region will be in Baguio City next week for the much-awaited comeback of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet.

This convention of players under the Department of Education will happen from April 29 – May 1, 2023.

City Administrator Bonifacio Dela Peña, in his interview with Bombo Radyo on April 15, said that Baguio City agreed to host the event since they are the one capable of holding the event after the pandemic but with a minimal budget.

“Everybody was affected by the pandemic. So, nakita nila ang Baguio may konting pondo para gawin itong CARAA meet natin so we agreed,” he said.

The LGU, he said, has a budget of P4.5 million. This is half of the usual P9 million funding they allot when hosting CARAA.

Peña also informed that the opening of this year’s CARAA Meet will be held at the Melvin Jones since the Baguio Athletic Bowl is currently under construction.

He added that venues for the different sports events will be at schools in Baguio City.

With the limited time to prepare, Peña said that the coordinators are having double time to get everything done and ready for April 29 – May 1.

“But we are hoping for the best… na ang hosting ng CARAA will be well done,” he said.
