Baguio fire that razed 5 houses leaves 1 dead, 11 families displaced

Baguio City, Philippines - A 61-year-old man was killed in a structural fire that transpired on Gaerlan Street, Barangay Campo Filipino, Baguio City, in the early morning of Tuesday, August 27.

 

The casualty was identified as Gerald Theofore Dereje, a resident of the area.

 

Based on the authorities’ investigations, the old man was able to get out of his house during the fire, but for unknown reasons, he returned inside until he was trapped and burned by the fire.

 

The latest report from the BFP-Baguio, meanwhile, cited that 51 individuals or 11 families were affected by the incident. The initial cost of damage is estimated at P900,000 in which five houses were razed by the fire.

 

The victims are now at the evacuation center in Baguio and were given initial assistance by the CSWDO-Baguio and the Department of Social Welfare and Development Cordillera.

 

The cause of the blaze is still being investigated by the authorities as of this writing.

 

Call for donations

 

To help aid the fire victims, the city government of Baguio and the barangay officials are now calling for any donations, such as food, blankets, clothes, water, canned goods, and toiletries, to be dropped off at the Campo Filipino Barangay Hall.
