Baguio City, Philippines – The city government of Baguio is now set to transfer the titles of its famous Burnham Park to the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), the City Public Information Office revealed recently.

Created by virtue of Republic Act No. 9593, otherwise known as the Tourism Act of 2009, TIEZA is a Government-Owned and Controlled Corporation (GOCC) that functions as the Department of Tourism’s implementing arm in providing support infrastructures and facilitating investments in tourism nationwide.

The city government, however, will still continue to administer, manage and operate the site pursuant to Executive Order No. 224, series of 1995 issued by former President Fidel V. Ramos and Executive Order No. 695, series of 2009 issued by former President Gloria Macapagal - Arroyo, City Administrator Bonifacio Dela Peña explained.

As for the transfer process, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed recently between TIEZA and the local government wherein the corporation will take over the titles of some of the parts of the park as well as future titles for its remaining portions.

Under the agreement, the agency is also mandated to reimburse the expenses in the processing of the titles to the city government.

Located in the heart of the city, Burnham Park was created in the early 1900s by American Architect Daniel Hudson Burnham and was named after him. It is one of Baguio's popular tourist attractions, covering 34 hectares of land and offering a range of activities for people to enjoy.
