Baguio public toilets win ASEAN Tourism Standards Award

Baguio City, Philippines – After successful promotion and maintenance of responsible management of restrooms in the City of Pines, the public toilets at Botanical Garden and Wright Park bagged the 2023 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Tourism Standards Awards- ASEAN Public Toilet Award.

The ASEAN Tourism Award is an annual event that recognizes localities and units for their outstanding tourism-related products and services, promoting the long-term growth of tourist destinations across the ASEAN region.

This provides an opportunity for tourist businesses and local tourism organizations to successfully market their tourism business activities and contribute to promoting the national tourism brand.

According to the ASEAN National Tourism Organization, the event is subject to eight tourism standards, including the Green Hotel Standard, Spa Services Standard, Clean Tourist City Standard, Community Based Tourism Standard, Homestay Standard, Public Toilet Standard, Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) Venue Standard, and Sustainable Tourism Standard.

Baguio City passed the standard with the minimum requirements of ASEAN Public Toilet which made them earn the said award.

The awarding ceremony will be held on February 5, 2023, at the Marriott Yogyakarta Hotel, Indonesia.

Meantime, Mayor Benjamin Magalong commended the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) for their hard work and dedication to keeping the public toilets clean as well as promoting sustainable development in the tourism sites.

Last year, Baguio City also won the “ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award” after passing all seven key standards set by the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard in 2022.
