Baguio PWDs showcased talents on disability prevention and rehabilitation week

Baguio City, Philippines – Over a hundred of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the city did not let their physical impairments stop them from sharing their God-given talents during the 45th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week celebration.

Said event was held from July 17 to July 20, 2023.

With this year’s theme, “Person with Disabilities Accessibility and Rights: Towards a Sustainable Future where No One is Left Behind”, said program aims to create a more inclusive society where differently-abled people are free to fully participate in all aspects of life.

During the three-day event, PWDs from various associations showcased their gifts in various competitions such as modern dance, cultural dance, and singing contests.

Other activities such as booths for hygiene lecture, stress management lecture, urine examination for PWDs, and basic sign language tutorials, among others, also took place during the event.

Announced winners received their cash prizes and certificates.

Meanwhile, the City Persons with Disabilities Office (PDAO), disclosed that there are 5, 850 PWDs in the city based on their validated data profile. The agency, therefore, urges other PWDs to register in their office.

In his statement with local media, PDAO Head Samuel Aquino thanked the city government for their support of said event.

“We are grateful to the local government of Baguio for giving us the chance to govern, to promote, and at the same time to participate in the government service,” he conveyed.
