Baguio City, Philippines - A total of 712 Vehicular Traffic Accidents (VTA) was documented in Baguio City from January to September 2023, based on the Baguio City Traffic Police Office- Traffic Enforcement Unit’s data.

This is lower compared to 731 cases in 2022.

Of the 712 total cases, 320 were recorded in the first quarter of this year, 205 in the 2nd quarter , and 187 in the 3rd quarter.

According to Deputy City Director for Operations PLtCol. Domingo Gambican, as cited by the Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation, human error is seen to be the leading caused of theses road mishaps.

Human error refers to different forms of negligence or distractions that a driver encounters, leading to road crashes.

To address the high number of VTA in the city, Mayor Benjamin Magalong recently directed the Baguio City Police Office to strengthen its information and education campaign on road safety using the Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS) when deploying police personnel along accident-prone areas.
