Baguio vagrant reunites with family after 8 years

Updated: May 8, 2023

KC, the vagrant recently rescued by authorities in Baguio City, had been living on the streets for nearly a decade.

Eight years since he left home, he was rescued in December last year and reunited with his family this March 2023.

Nurse Ricky Ducas, a mental health advocate of the Baguio City Health Services Office, narrated on Facebook this March 19 that KC has been roaming around the streets in Baguio. The first time he felt the eagerness to help him was when he saw KC at Maharlika wearing clean clothes, boots, and full make-up.

Fate seems to be reaching out to Ricky’s heart as he saw KC again in December 2022, during the Pride March in Baguio City where he was sent to represent Mayor Benjamin Magalong.

“Sa kalagitna ng aking pananalita sa harap ng stage nakita ko na nakikiisa at nakikisaya siya sa mga LGBTQI+ community,” he recounted.

A rescue was carried out by the Baguio City Health Services Office and the City Social Welfare and Development Office in December last year after KC was brought to their attention by the Public Order & Safety Division and the vendors.

Never a dull day with KC

KC, who didn’t refuse to go with the rescuers, was first referred to the Sto. Niño Facility. On December 22, 2022, he was transferred to the City Social Welfare & Development Office - Silungan Center where he stayed longer since it was challenging to look for his family.

Ricky described KC bringing more color at the center with his personality saying, “KC was so comfortable with his new home with his new found friend and family. We thank KC for there were no dull moments with him.”

Back home

KC whose real name is Jaycee left home when he was in fourth grade. Since then, he has lived on the streets and moved from place to place.

After 8 years of being away from home, KC finally felt the warm embrace of his family.

“Nakauwi na po silang mag iina sa Tarlac at muling yakap ng ina ang nagpakapit sa kay KC upang sana hindi na umalis pa sa kanilang tahanan,” Ricky wrote.

Meantime, Ricky stated that the best place to share blessings is the Silungan Center in Baguio City stating, “kasi doon madaming kwento ng mga bata na lingid sa ating kaalaman ay nangyari pala na kala natin sa pelikula lang napapanood pero totoo pala.”
