Tabuk City, Kalinga – Amlao Barangay Captain Macario Balanggao Jr., who is aspiring for the City Mayoral seat of Tabuk, denied that he declined to attend the Voter's Education and Media Forum set by the City Public Information Office (CPIO).
According to Balanggao, he could not decline because he never received any invitation from the office.
This is in response to what the CPIO published on April 1, through their official Facebook page, on who among the mayoral candidates confirmed attendance for the Mayoral Candidates' Forum scheduled to be live-streamed at 1:00-4:00 PM tomorrow, April 05, 2022.
The post states that only the incumbent Mayor Darwin Estrañero and Vice-Mayor Bernard Glenn Dao-as confirmed their presence in the event, while the name of Balanggao is labeled as ‘declined.’
Earlier today, April 04, Jerome Balinag Tabanganay posted the screenshot of the said post attached, describing it as ‘fake news and irresponsible publicity.’
“THIS IS A FAKE NEWS. IRRESPONSIBLE PUBLICITY. ACCORDING TO MACARIO BALANGGAO JR. HE NEVER DECLINED AN INVITATION ABOUT THE CANDIDATES FORUM. KUNG WALA KAYONG ISSUE NA MAIBATO SA MALINIS NA PANGALAN NG COMMON TAO CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR,, HUWAG KAYO MAG-IMBENTO,” captioned Tabanganay.
In an interview, he said the decision of the core group of Balanggao is to attend, since the event, he added, is a chance for him to air his platforms. Moreover, it is convenient, and it is free.
This was confirmed by the candidate himself in a separate interview. Balanggao belied the CPIO’s post, as no invitation had reached him.
“Diay ngarud ti inkwa da a nag-decline nak kanu ket awan met ti inpa-pareceive da a letter kanyak wennu invitation, ket apay, kasanu nga adda ti tiwalak ti kasdiay nga awan ti inyapan da nga inbitasyon tapos inbaga da dagus a nag-decline nak… o, diay pay laeng ket nagadun ti inbagbaga dan nga awan met ti napan da inpa-receive kenyak ngem uray nu kasta ket nangamong ladta ti Diyos kanyada,” said the mayoral aspirant.
CPIO says wife of Balanggao is in charge of the invitation
On the other hand, Ian Addatu of the CPIO said they handed the letter of invitation to the wife of Balanggao at their residence. Accordingly, the office likewise called Balanggao through phone, but the latter did not confirm his attendance.
“Binigay po namin sa house nila tapos ang wife niya po yung in-charge dun po sa letter and then tinawagan namin nung Friday at hindi po siya nag-confirm yun po yung sabi niya so we posted on our page na ganun po yung nangyari. We went personally sa kanila po, and we tried contacting them many times,” stated Addatu.
“…nung last time po, na-invite namin siya pero pinatayan po ng phone call at the same time, nung nagca-campaign sila with her wife, na-inform din po yung asawa niya pero nag-decline po, yun yung sagot sa amin,” he added.
