Balbalan holds first-ever Christmas tree, lantern lighting

Balbalan, Kalinga – The Balbalan Local Government Unit welcomed the Yuletide Season with Christmas lighting at the Municipal Hall, a once dream of the LGU that turned into a reality on December 1, 2022.

The Balbalan LGU marked this momentous event through a ‘Pasilaw’ activity, the simultaneous lighting of the Christmas tree and lanterns at the Municipal Hall.

The event was highlighted by a lantern parade, fireworks display, and lantern-making competition. The constituents, particularly the young ones, also got to dance to the music from the live band during the mini-concert.

This simple yet substantial activity was actually the dream of the Balbalan LGU for the past years, Tourism Officer Regine Faye Munda Cruz noted.

According to her, this dream was finally realized this year through the concerted efforts of the Tourism Council in Balbalan and the support extended by Mayor Almar Malannag and the Sangguniang Bayan headed by Vice Mayor Rowina Damian.

“Daytoy umun-una kasla dream lang daytoy nga adda kuma met iti Christmas lights ditoy Municipal Hall. But then nanayunan iti other ideas isu nga adda dagitoy lantern making competition … ken lantern parade,” she recalled.

The Tourism Officer reiterated Mayor Malannag’s words that they will be improving the activity and will be allotting more funding next year.
