Balbalan, Kalinga gets Gawad KALASAG Seal award 2022


Balbalan, Kalinga – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and Offices (NDRRMC) recognized the Municipality of Balbalan as one of the recipients of 2022 Gawad Kalasag “fully compliant” seal during the 22nd Gawad Kalasag National Awarding Ceremony.

Balbalan is one of the 4 localities in Kalinga province that received a Gawad Kalasag certification for being ‘fully compliant’ local government units


‘Fully-compliant’ LGUs are those that generally adhere to the standards for the establishment and functionality of the LDRRMOs.


Municipal Vice Mayor Rowina Damian and LDRRM-Balbalan Officer 2 Krischian Dao-wan personally received the said award at the Newtown Plaza Hotel, Baguio City on Dec. 16.


LDRRM-Balbalan Officer 2 disclosed that it was the first time the MDRRM Office of Balbalan received said award as Mayor Almar Malannag fully supported their programs and activities for effectively addressing the needs of vulnerable communities, particularly during disasters.

“Mayat met lang ta fully support ni Mayor Almar, in-concentrate na nga sinupurtaran ti activities ti MDRRM ken with the effort ti LGU Balbalan ken MDRRM council members ket na-meet mi diay score mi nga kasdiay,” Dao-wan conveyed.


With the award, Dao-wan urged the Balbalan-MDRRM members to improve their services, such as disaster preparedness, mitigation, and swift responses to those in need, and to instill the effective implementation of preventative disaster plans.


He also hopes that they will achieve their goals to reach the ‘beyond compliant’ so that their effort and hard work will be recognized.

What is Gawad KALASAG?


Gawad Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan (KALASAG) recognized individuals, non-government organizations, private sector and government organizations for their initiative in helping the Filipino government to uplift the standard of disaster management in the country.

Additionally, Local DRRM councils and other offices will get GK Seal awards from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) for meeting the criteria specified in Republic Act 10121, also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.
