Balbalan, Kalinga SPES to get wages this week; Mayor Malannag says students’ work experience important for future job

Balbalan, Kalinga – After completing a 20-day part-time work, 80 student-workers in Balbalan gained first hand office work experience and will be receiving their salary for their service anytime this week.

On September 4, the Municipal Local Government Unit informed that Mayor Almar Malannag already signed the pay slip of the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) beneficiaries in Balbalan this year.

The SPES program aims to provide temporary employment to poor but deserving students, out-of-school youth, and dependents of displaced or would-be-displaced workers to augment the family’s income, to continue and finish their education.

Each recipient will be paid 472.73/day. Of the 80 beneficiaries, 20 will be shouldered by the Balbalan MLGU while the remaining 60 will be paid in a 40-60 sharing between the Department of Labor and Employment-Kalinga and the MLGU.

Mayor Malannag announced that the pay, once available, can be received from the Municipal Treasury Office in Balbalan. As for those recipients who are in Tabuk City, they can get their pay at the Balbalan Dormitory on September 7 – 8.

The mayor earlier said that he made sure all the student workers this year were deployed at offices and not on the streets to do labor work. He stressed that these students should learn from the office in order for them to gain workplace experience which they can put on their resume once they graduated and look for a job.
