Balbalan kids learn self-defense through free taekwondo training

Balbalan, Kalinga – Youngsters in Balbalan learn self-defense through the free taekwondo training provided by the Local Government Unit of Balbalan, under Mayor Almar Malannag’s leadership.

The training dubbed as the Mayor’s Taekwondo Summer Camp started on July 1 at the KDCM Sports Center and will run for 20 days.

According to Mayor Malannag, the idea of providing taekwondo training to the children in the municipality was pitched by Vice Mayor Rowina Alison Damian. He immediately supported the idea as this is in line with the LGU’s continuous commitment to empowering the youth.

He added that sports like taekwondo equip kids with self-defence skills and provide them a platform to compete in national and international tournaments.   

“Dayta iti purpose tayo nga unaen tayo dagitoy youth ta daisuda iti new generation nga mangituloy kadagitoy trab-trabaho tayo ditoy Balbalan,” he said.

Currently, there are nearly a hundred elementary and high school learners who have availed of the training being held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
