Balbalan LGU awards over P100,000 to winners of lantern-making, parade contest

Balbalan, Kalinga – The local government of Balbalan headed by Mayor Almar Malannag awarded over P100,000 to the winners of lantern-making and lantern parade competition during its first municipal-wide ‘Pasilaw’ event held on Wednesday, December 1, at the municipal ground.


Talents and performances of participating schools and business establishments were showcased in the event initiated by the LGU as a means of acknowledging and supporting the abilities of its constituents.


Top performers received their certificates during the event while their corresponding cash incentives were given the following day.

Winners of Lantern Parade Competition


Garnering the highest score of 97 percent in the lantern parade competition, Balbalan Central School got a P15,000 reward.


Balbalan Agricultural and Industrial School was proclaimed as the second placer for achieving a rating of 96.6 percent, therefore getting the P13,000 prize. Next to BAIS is Eastern Balbalan Highschool that gained 95.2 percent and received P12, 000.


Meantime, Balbalan National Highschool, Saint Theresita’s Highschool, and Dao-angan Elementary School received consolation prizes of P10,000 each.


Special awards were further given to Balbalan Central School for being the “Most Cheerful” group and or having the “Most Colorful Lantern” while Balbalan National School High School got the “Most Discipline Award.”

Lantern-making competition


Participants in the lantern-making competition were the business establishment owners in the municipality.


Amma-i Ba-i from Audrey Store in Poswoy got the 1st place and was awarded P15,000; Raniag owned by Manalo Electronics in Poblacion got the 2nd place with a P13,000 cash prize, and Kulkukshung from Cecille's Store in Poblacion landed in the 3rd place with P12,000 reward.


Further, the lanterns of Parol de Shilang of KAMPCO in Poblacion; Vayya-usan of KALIPI in Pantikian; Atiffungalon of JCG Catering in Poblacion; Messiah of Freedda's Cakes and Catering in Balantoy; Masilap from Yohann's Catering in Poblacion; Solag from JSL Store in Pantikian, and Estrella de Passion of MAFASLA in Maling got consolation prizes with P10,000 each.


The Municipal Tourism Office, being the event organizer, explained that in order to determine the winners, the board of judges followed the mechanics provided in scoring the participants.
