Balbalan LGU honors senior citizens, provides free medical care

Balbalan, Kalinga – Senior citizens in Balbalan were honored and provided with free medical care during the town’s celebration of Senior Citizen’s Week earlier this October.

The Municipal Local Government Unit, headed by Mayor Almar Malannag, gathered the elderlies in the municipality for a program at the KDCM Sports Center in Poblacion, Balbalan last week to recognize their contributions to the community through series of activities.

Balbalan Municipal Information Office reported that among the highlights of the event was the free check-up for the participants and free immunization against pneumonia and other diseases. The elderlies were likewise given free dental services and medicines.

During the event, attendees whose birthdays fall in October received cakes and milk. This is a practice institutionalized by the LGU wherein senior birthday celebrators receive gifts from the local government. 

Further, the oldest elderlies among the participants were given incentives.

Mayor Malannag, in an interview, expressed that the LGU deeply appreciates the older generation in Balbalan as they are the ones who started the progress in the municipality. He added that the elderlies who set examples for the younger ones hold the wisdom the latter do not possess yet.

“Ipakita mi nga isuda nga senior citizen nga importante da ditoy ili mi nga Balbalan. Kayat ko gamin as a local chief executive, ikkak iti importansiya dagitoy nga tattao ta dagitoy nga tattao nga senior citizens, dakkel iti contribution da iti panag-improve, panag-develop iti Balbalan ta isuda iti nangalaan mi iti experience, nakitkita mi da isuda, nu anya iti Balbalan tatta,” he said.
