Balbalan LGU leaps from Third Class to FIRST Class municipality

Balbalan, Kalinga – Balbalan’s continuous improving economy led the town to jump from being a third class to now a first class municipality.

Through Department Order No. 074.2024, the Department of Finance recently released the reclassifications of provinces, cities, and municipalities in the Philippines where they categorized Balbalan as one of the first class towns in the country.

This classification is based on income ranges and average annual regular income for three fiscal years, and for a municipality to be classified as first class, it has to have a P200,000,000 average annual regular income.

According to Mayor Almar Malannag, Balbalan was able to increase their revenue through the coming and opening of more businesses in town and the implementation of the Local Tax Code. He also added that the LGU through its Municipal Treasury Office always reminds and encourages iBalbalans to pay their taxes on time to avoid penalty and surcharges.

Malannag, meantime, said that these taxes being collected from the people are being converted to services and projects which benefit the public.

“Dagitoy it-ited iti government, from national to local government, isubsubli mi lang kadakayo daytoy in terms iti programa iti gobyerno. Dagitoy projects ken services nagapu met lang iti buwis yu, naipu-ipon nga napan idiay national treasury nga insubli da kadatayo,” he said.

With these developments in Balbalan, the mayor conveyed that it is a manifestation that the leaders the iBalbalans have chosen are working hard for the betterment of the municipality and the people.
