Balbalan reports 4 houses damaged and over a hundred families affected by Typhoon Nika

Balbalan, Kalinga – Four houses in Balbalan were not spared from the wrath of Typhoon Nika which struck the Province of Kalinga on November 11, 2024.

 

Kalinga is among the provinces in Northern Luzon that experienced torrential rains and heavy winds under signal no. 4 on Monday.

 

The typhoon triggered landslides and some flooding in some areas in the province, forcing several families to leave their dwellings.

 

One of the towns in Kalinga that was ravaged by Nika was Balbalan where the typhoon left the town with four damaged houses– two of them totally destroyed.

 

Data from the Balbalan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office as of 8:00 p.m. of November 11 revealed that two residences were totally damaged in Balantoy, while two others were partially destroyed in Poswoy.

 

Moreover, Nika also forced a hundred families to evacuate from their houses – 23 families, or 87 people stayed at evacuation centers while 88 families, or 308 individuals did not go to the centers but to their relatives.

 

Necessary assistance was immediately provided by the Balbalan LGU, headed by Mayor Almar Malannag, to the affected families.

 

The report on damage to agriculture is yet to be finalized and submitted to the Balbalan MDRRMO.
