Balbalan VM Damian delivers last welcome remarks for Manchatchatong Festival, underscores importance of culture and heritage

Balbalan, Kalinga –Vice Mayor Rowina Damian turns emotional during the 17th Manchatchatong Festival as she informs the public that it shall be her last welcome remarks for the town’s celebration of its founding anniversary.

 

Taking the stage to deliver her welcome remarks during the formal program of the town festival on March 21, Damian said that although it will be her last welcome remarks as a Vice-Mayor, she hopes to deliver a message as a guest speaker in the future.

 

“This will be my last time to deliver my welcome remarks for our municipality’s founding anniversary. But with high hopes, that someday, my name would be put there as guest speaker for this festival, just like our esteemed guest of honor for today,” she said, as she will not seek reelection this May 2025 polls.

 

In her message, Damian reflected on the rich heritage of Balbalan, saying it is not just a manifestation of what the forefathers used to be, but they are also the foundation of the future of the town.

 

“As we come together to celebrate, it is important to remember that our heritage is not just a reflection of where we have been, but also the foundation upon which we continue to build our future. This festival is a tribute to the rich traditions, values, and customs that shaped our identity and provide us with a sense of belonging,” she expressed.

 

Following the speech of the Vice Mayor and other government officials is the vibrant display of cultural dances and local products from Balbalan's various barangays which captivated both residents and visitors.
