Tabuk City, Kalinga – Five years since this set of barangay officials in one of the urban villages of Tabuk took their seats, continued progress and development are now evident in the area.
Led by Punong Barangay Steve Gayyad, a barangay tanod turned top barangay kagawad; Appas has undergone positive changes considering the utmost support of various stakeholders, and its constituents since 2019, which he is grateful for.
Some of the positive changes in the barangay are the opening and improvements of roads, continued support to education, and establishment of structural projects benefiting the community’s 3,169 populaces.
For road projects, Gayyad disclosed their group initiated the opening of roads at Mamicao Street and Lapog Street, opening of roads and riprapping at Falgui Street and Egay Street, and concreting of road and riprapping at Dirige Street.
In support of these projects, canal lining improvement and installation of street lights are now ongoing in some areas in the barangay. Canal lining is being implemented at Appas Sur while street lights are currently being installed at Nasgueban and Appas Norte.
Gayyad, in an interview, said other areas will soon benefit from the same projects.
Apart from these, prevention of possible flooding due to incessant rains was also among the priorities of the barangay local government, thus initiating the construction of a box culvert and flood control at Lapog.
For education, the barangay purchased a lot where a daycare center will be established at Nasgueban. Gayyad conveyed they made the move considering the distance of said sitio to another daycare center in the barangay.
They likewise funded the construction of a makeshift building for Appas Primary School in the same location. In same school, a permanent building shall soon rise with the barangay council having crafted a resolution for such purpose which was later approved.
The punong barangay further relayed they funded the construction of a multi-purpose hall at Centro West, along with its fencing, construction of another multi-purpose hall at Centro East and purchase a lot at Centro East, Appas, and at Nasgueban, Appas.
A gym, which will be for meetings, gatherings, sports, and other activities shall also soon be erected in the barangay since its implementation is ongoing.
For the protection of the environment, the barangay local government is also conducting activities for their clean and green program. To further support said goal, officials are making sure their constituents abide by the ‘Batug ko, Dalus ko’ ordinance.
Gayyad’s main governance thrusts centers on projects and programs for education, public health, the elderly, agriculture, environment, and local businesses. He believes that an inclusive approach to development will make Barangay Appas a more progressive community.
