Tinglayan, Kalinga – 32 members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) in the 20 barangays of Tinglayan underwent training on Friday, August 26, to add their knowledge to the promotion of peace, security, and safety in the municipality.

The participants of the training were composed of different organized sectors in the community, which include barangay ‘tanod’, youth, women, and religious sectors, among others.

According to Police Captain Luis Bulao, the barangay local government unit, particularly the BPAT is an auxiliary force of the police in keeping peace and order, and said training is necessary for them to learn basic knowledge regarding crime prevention.

BPAT, Bulao said, is under their direct supervision, and is tasked to serve in conflict resolution in barangays, disaster management, community organization, and law enforcement.

Peace, safety, and security are one of the focus of the administration of Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, which he has put emphasis on as an important aspect for ensuring continuous progress in said municipality.

Highlights of the Training

The Municipal Information Office of Tinglayan said lecturers and trainers were the personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office, the firemen from the Bureau of Fire Protection-Tinglayan, and the Tinglayan Police.

Topics included Basic Water Search and Rescue, First aid and Basic Life Support techniques, Basic Handcuffing Techniques, and other arresting techniques.

In a statement, Mayor Gumilab extended his gratitude to Tinglayan police for spearheading the activity, since peace and order is one of the issues that needed to be addressed in his jurisdiction.

He added that through the participation of BPAT members in said training, they will be more capable of helping the police sustain peace and order in Tinglayan.

“Thank you to the people behind this activity and to our BPAT members. I salute you for rendering your selfless services in helping the LGU. Our police officers maintain peace and order in Tinglayan,” he said
