‘Be your own hero’ - Kalinga Cong. Mangaoang on Nat’l Heroes Day

Tabuk City, Kalinga – As the nation commemorates the heroism and bravery of those who fought and struggled for national independence this August 29, 2022, Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang encouraged the public to be a hero in their own simple way.

Mangaoang noted that while National Heroes Day was institutionalized to pay tribute to heroes who sacrificed for the liberty we enjoy today, ‘anyone can be a hero in his own choice.’

“Heroes in contemporary times are borne with us in various capacities. They are those who teach in the academe to emancipate us from the bondage of illiteracy. They are those who fight battles for us to enjoy peace. They are those who are armed with needles for us to be protected from illnesses. They are those who leave their comfort zones to respond to distress calls. And they are those who plant the seeds for us to have food on the table,” he stated through his social media post.

The congressman related the event seven years ago when he planted a rambutan seedling as a way of commemorating the foundation day of Taloctoc General Comprehensive National High School.

According to the School Head Roman Icao, the rambutan tree is now in its third bearing year, providing a source of vitamins to the stakeholders.

Trees likewise lower the occurrence of possible landslides, help combat climate change, and improve the quality of life of the generations.
