BENECO brings electricity to 31 families in Kapangan’s far-flung sitio

Kapangan, Benguet – With its commitment to electrify the whole of Benguet and Baguio City, Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) brought its electrification service in Sitio Kaliwaga, Gaswiling, Kapangan Benguet.


The program, which was funded with a budget of P 2,702,333.11, benefited a total of 31 households.


The project started on May 5, 2022 and was completed on June 16, 2022.


The switch-on ceremony transpired on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

Benguet Vice-Governor Ericson “Tagel” Felipe, Board Member Robert Canuto, Kapangan Mayor Manny Fermin, Punong Barangay Ulysses Bugtong, other LGU officials, and EC MCO United officers led the event along with therecipients, GM Mel Licoben, BOD Chairperson Esteban Somngi, Board Directors Jeffred Acop, Peter Busaing, Josephine Tuling, and Robert Valentin.


The cooperative, according to Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation, did not collect service fees for the putting of power lines, house wiring materials, installation, and processing fees.


Bugtong, the barangay captain, expressed gratitude for the implementation of said program in his jurisdiction, as this will positively impact the lives of his constituents.


In 2009, BENECO started implementing the program utilizing a loan, which they paid through monthly remittance to the National Electrification Administration.


It was only in 2011 that the national government started giving subsidies to the electric cooperative, which aided them to pay off the loan.
