Benguet kicks off 9th fruit festival


Sablan, Benguet – Variety of fruits are now on display in Sablan, the “fruit basket of Benguet” as it kicks its 9th and month-long Fruit Festival today, August 07.


The produce can be found at the agri-trade fair along the national highway in Poblacion, Sablan.

Launched in 2015, the crowd-drawing event serves as a venue for local farmers in the town to market their locally grown fruits, among other agricultural products.


Led by various leaders and officials in the municipality, the celebration opened with the ribbon cutting of said agri-trade fair followed by a thanksgiving mass.


A canvass painting contest likewise took place at the municipal gymnasium for today’s opening ceremony.


Among the highlights of this year's month-long celebration include the indigenous fruit art packaging and local fruit-based shake contest on September 01; float parade on Sept. 02; and the inter-barangay agri-booth trade fair and competition on Sept. 02 -04.

Other events are street dance, car and motorcycle show; video editing showdown; poster making contest; sports competition; mass wedding ceremony; healthcare services; and a Farmers' Congress and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) workshop.


The festival is expected to boost the fruit industry of Sablan, likewise to recover from the devastating effect of the Super Typhoon Egay which struck the province last July 26-27, 2023.
