Bill increasing BGH and Medical Center bed capacity signed into law

Baguio, City Philippine – Bed capacity at Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center will be increased to 1500, this is after Congressman Mark Go’s bill seeking an increase of 700 beds at the hospital was signed into law.

With the development, it is expected that the hospital and medical center will treat more patients and help more people.

In his Facebook post, the congressman shared that the Republic Act (RA) 11889 will mandate the increase of bed capacity at BGHMC from 800 to 1500 to ensure that patients going to the said hospital will receive quality health care.

He added that the law shall require the hospital to upgrade healthcare services, equipment, and facilities.

The hospital is also mandated to increase its medical personnel.

Go said the BGHMC doesn’t only attend to patients from Baguio and the Cordillera Administrative Region but also from regions 1 and 2.

Many of the patients, he noted, go to Baguio as they do not have means to go to big hospitals in Manila.

“Many of our kababayans from the North simply do not have the means [to] go to the big hospitals in Manila to receive quality and comprehensive medical and healthcare services.

We in the North also deserve access to a wider array of highly specialized medical services and this provides just that,” the congressman conveyed.

Go pushed for the law increasing BGHMC’s bed capacity from 500 to 800 in 2018.

According to Go, 15 programs will be implemented in full at the hospital in the next four years. These include Cardiovascular care, Renal care and transplant, Lung care, Brain and spine care, Orthopedic center, Cancer care, Infectious disease and tropical medicine, and Mental health, among others.
