BJMP officer from Benguet wins 3 gold medals in international Jiu-jitsu tournament

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A jail officer from Kapangan, Benguet but currently working in the province of Kalinga won three gold medals after competing at the recently concluded Asian Sport Jiu-jitsu Federation Manila 2022, International Gi and Nogi Championship held at Festival Mall in Alabang.

This rare event delivered a pleasant surprise to his comrades as the competition was attended by various teams of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu practitioners in the Philippines and other countries.

JO1 Arvin Luma-ang Jose won gold in Gi adult white light division, No Gi adult white light division, and No Gi Open weight adult white division on August 20-21, 2022. Jose is assigned to the Tabuk City District Jail.

In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Jose said he used his days off for training, admitting the challenge of work and preparation balance as he conditioned himself for the competition.

On his workdays, he did cardio exercises to improve his endurance and stamina.

Jose disclosed he has been practicing martial arts since he was 17. However, he can now only join tournaments if his work is not compromised.

“As of now whenever there is a chance or a competition that falls on my day off, I will take the opportunity to participate,” he said.
