Tabuk City, Kalinga - Kalinga Board Member and the Chairman of the Committee on Health Atty. Danzel Langkit, on Friday, December 13, recognized the vital role of the barangay health workers (BHWs) in the province, describing them as 'on the ground heroes’ of the health system of the community where they are assigned.
There are over a thousand BHWs in the province.
“Tandaan tayu, uray haan ibagbaga ti umili, dakayu mismo on the ground nga bayani. Dakayu nga barangay health workers bayani ka, bayani kayo,” stated Atty. Langkit.
Langkit made the statement during the BHW Congress organized by the Office of the Provincial Health Officer on said date.
The congress brought together BHWs from the seven municipalities of Kalinga. It was conducted to honor the essential contributions that BHWs make in promoting health and well-being at the grassroots level.
In his speech during the event, Langkit, aside from recognizing the outstanding contributions of the BHWs to the province’s health services, inspired them to continue their hard work and maintain their unity.
“Papigsaen ti panag titinulong. lagipen tayu met ti kangrunaan ti armas tayu nga health workers ket ayat tayu nga agserbi. Panunuten tayu kuma bilang barangay health workers kailangan ti komunidad ti care nga kunada,” he said.
As for the needs of the BHWs, Langkit assured them that he, as the Chairman on Health, will do anything he can to raise their incentives, saying “Aramiden tayo amin, tapno met ngumato iti incentives yo”.
In appreciation of the relentless work of the BHWs, awards were given to them by the Provincial Health Office - Kalinga.
As cited by the Kalinga Information Office, plaques of recognition and cash prizes were given to Remedios A. Bermudez from Balbalan and Arlene Bernese Reyes from Tabuk City for their exceptional contributions to Kalinga's health system.
Cash prizes were also awarded to the best-performing city or municipality health federations. Tabuk City Association of Barangay Health Workers emerged as the top performer, winning P30,000, while the Pasil Barangay Health Workers Association Incorporated took second place and received P20,000.
The congress also featured a spirited yell competition where each participating municipality/city was awarded P3,500 from the event’s sponsors.
Additionally, 13 exceptional BHWs were awarded certificates of recognition and cash prizes for their remarkable contributions to public health. All attendees received a sack of rice each from the Office of the Provincial Governor to further honor their role in delivering health services to people in their assigned areas.
