Balancing the demands of public service and family obligations is not an easy challenge for politicians. From public events, meetings till late at night and addressing the concerns of the people, these take politicians away from spending quality time with their families.

When asked about this during the "Know Your Candidates" Forum of the Tabuk City Public Information Office on December 4, 2024, the incumbent Board Member for District 1 of Kalinga Atty. Danzel Michael Dasayon Langkit provided insights on how he balances his work as a public servant, his role as a father, and his responsibility as a husband.

According to him, managing his family is done by orienting them to be selfless, having integrity, and sharing with them the value of being helpful. For him, these values are important for a good life and good governance.

“I manage my family. I orient them to be selfless. I shared the value of sharing. I shared the value of integrity in family, kasi importante dayta eh. Then I shared the value of public service, diay panagbiag ti managtulong," he stated.

Langkit also noted that the very nature of public service is serving others. As he described, his work for the government is really an extension of the services he personally provides to his family.

"Ti pamilyak, karu dagiti ubing ko, nu makita dan nga rumwar nak, nga apanak agserbisyo ti publiko maawatan da didjay. Nu apan ka agtulong dagiti kakailyan, maawatan da, that is also a family service," he added.

Langkit has always made sure, despite the demanding nature of being in public office, that he spends quality time with his family.

He said that every first Sunday of the month, his family goes to the Church in Piat, Cagayan, to pray and spend the day together. Through that way, he believes that it strengthens the bond between the different members of the family who get much-needed time with each other.

"Apan kami diay Piat agkararag ti every first Sunday of the month and spend time together," he said.

Board Member Langkit's efforts in keeping the balance between public service with family life best describe a leadership style with its roots in values of service, collaboration, and integrity—the same principles he believes would be essential to a successful family life as well as good governance.
