Tabuk City, Kalinga – Amid the rising derogatory posts attacking political candidates and ridiculing private citizens on Kalinga Page hidden under anonymous or fake names, Board Member Danzel Langkit recently urged iKalingas to avoid spreading misinformation and, instead, give respect to others.

Board Member Langkit has raised concerns on the ill effects of misinformation, particularly those being posted on the “KALINGA Page.” The provincial legislator said such posts are not just downgrading the identity of a certain individual but also creating unnecessary division and distrust among the residents.

According to him, such types of online actions do nothing but weaken the unity of the province.

In his interview with Guru Press Cordillera on March 6, Langkit explained that social media is a space for self-expression; however, it should come with a responsibility.

“Social media is a platform for expression, ngem ada metlang responsibilidad tayo nga i-maintain diay respeto tayo ti pada tayo nga tao. Irespeto tayo latta ti pada tayo nga tao. Bago tayo agpost, panunuten tayo koma diay impact na, mas maymayat lattan nga iwasan tayo ti agpost ti kakasta,” he said.

The board member advised iKalingas to avoid engaging in online arguments that could escalate conflicts or further spread misinformation, reminding the public that irresponsible actions online can lead to real-world negative consequences.

As for those spreading false content, Langkit said the authorities are closely monitoring online platforms and that individuals spreading harmful posts would not go unnoticed.

“Those who post harmful content won’t go unpunished. Cybercrime charges could be filed against anyone spreading lies,” he stated. We all need to do our part in creating an environment where healthy discussion, not division, thrives. Spreading false information weakens our community, and that’s not the Kalinga we want to build,” he underscored.
