Body of 13-yr.-old girl who drowned in Bontoc finally found

Bontoc, Mt. Province – After almost 24 hours of search and rescue operation, the body of a 13-year-old girl who was drowned in Bontoc was finally found.

 

The municipal local government announced that the remains of Veneizah "Kulasa" Atiwag were retrieved by the authorities and community volunteers in Aronga, Tocucan around 12:04 p.m. today, May 25.


The girl drowned after she and her friends went to play at the riverbank around 10:00 a.m. on May 24. Her teen friends tried to save her after she fell into the river but failed to get her out of the waters.

 

The search and rescue teams together with volunteers were deployed to look for the girl’s body after a distress call was sent around 12:50 p.m. on Friday.

 

After finding the lifeless girl this Saturday, the Municipality of Bontoc condoled with the family and thanked those who helped in the operation.

 

“We pray for the repose of her soul and for strength and comfort for her family during this difficult time. We thank all the responders and volunteers involved in the search and recovery efforts. We also thank the community for their support and prayers,” the LGU wrote through their Facebook page.
