Body of 13-yr.-old who drowned in Baggao recovered; 2 men in Amulung still missing

Baggao, Cagayan – While the body of a 13-year-old girl in Baggao was recovered by authorities on Monday, November 11, two men coming from separate areas in Amulung, Cagayan are still the subject of search and retrieval operations.


It was on November 9 when the girl whose name was withheld by authorities drowned after allegedly slipping off the riverbank in Barangay Dalla, Baggao Cagayan. She was just washing up, according to MDRRMO Baggao, when the incident transpired.


While the girl could swim, authorities said she might have been overwhelmed and swept away the raging water.


Amulung drowning incidents


In Amulung Cagayan, two men became victims of separate drowning incidents on Tuesday, November 12.


The first victim was named by authorities as a certain Francis Mariano, 42. He was attempting to rescue his livestock but ended up being carried away by the river in Barangay Logung, Baggao Cagayan.


The other missing person is identified as Romnick Gavino, 18, a resident of Barangay Baccuit, Amulung.


MDRRMO Amulung, in a report, said that Gavino, along with four other individuals, was collecting driftwood at the Cagayan River when he accidentally lost his grip on the wood and was taken by the strong water current.


While his companions tried to rescue him, they were not successful in doing so.


As of this writing, the Task Force Lingkod Cagayan-Quick Response Team is now in the area conducting retrieval operations.
