Body of man found floating in Cagayan River 2 weeks after he drowned

Amulung, Cagayan – The body of a man who drowned while attempting to get driftwood while Typhoon Kristine was battering Cagayan Valley last month was already in its decomposing state when found Thursday, November 14.


The man, identified as Jonnyfer Callueng, a resident of San Vicente, Iguig went out from their house evening of October 25 to collect driftwood at the Cagayan River, near their residence.


Her wife disclosed that Callueng was intoxicated at the time as he had few shots of liquor before leaving.


While collecting driftwood at the swollen river, he was swept away by the raging water.

A search and rescue operations was later made but it was not successful; he wasn’t found until the his remains was sighted by residents along the boundary of Barangay Abolo and Barangay Unag in Amulung, floating in the Cagayan River.


The victim was ferried to a funeral parlor near the area for post-mortem care and was positively identified by his family.


Meanwhile, authorities are still conducting search and retrieval operations for two individuals who drowned in separate areas in Amulung Cagayan on Tuesday, November 12.

The first victim was named by authorities as a certain Francis Mariano, 42. He was attempting to rescue his livestock but ended up being carried away by the river in Barangay Logung, Baggao Cagayan.


The other missing person is identified as Romnick Gavino, 18, a resident of Barangay Baccuit, Amulung. Gavino, along with four other individuals, was collecting driftwood at the Cagayan River when he accidentally lost his grip on the wood and was taken by the strong water current.
